      <title><![CDATA[Still-Life A40/B1 – One of Germany's busiest motorways comes to a standstill]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[It's a truly unique setting: As part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, today 60 kilometres of Europe’s busiest motorway – the A40/B1 – are transformed into a stage for different cultures, nations and generations. Residents of and visitors to the Ruhr Metropolis celebrate a unique festival of everyday life and culture on the region’s main traffic artery, the A40/B1 motorway. The world’s longest table with 20,000 tables over a 60-kilometre route represents a meeting place for different cultures, generations and nations – all part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The entire section of the motorway is blocked for traffic but open to visitors in both directions. The project, which has been planned by the organizers of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, is truly one for the record books.]]></description>

      <title><![CDATA[Greatest choir in the world: !SING DAY OF SONG finale with more than 60,000 singers]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA["A beautiful day" - that was the title of the final song sung at the final concert as well as a fitting summary of the !SING – DAY OF SONG project. 600 concerts all over the Ruhr Metropolis and many thousands of singers turned the whole Ruhr region into one gigantic choir. All day long, starting with midnight and sunrise concerts, people were singing on ships, on market squares, schoolyards and even in subways.]]></description>

      <title><![CDATA[Balloons Glow at "NightShaftSigns"]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[Last night, the world's largest art installation, "Shaft Signs", was given a captivating night-time image. From 10pm until 1am, all 311 balloons from the Shaft Signs exhibit were illuminated and lofted into the sky above the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, as "NightShaftSigns". The glowing exhibit was visible from far away. The German Aerospace Centre (DLR) produced spectacular aerial videos of the event from some 200 metres in the air, using a helicopter and advanced photographic equipment. Covering an area of some 4,000 km2, “Shaft Signs" is currently the largest art installation in the world.  It highlights the former Ruhr area as a demonstration of the transformation of the former coal and steel region into the Ruhr Metropolis, a metropolis of the future. The "NightShaftSigns" are balloons illuminated from the inside, and create a magical scene around the full moon.]]></description>

      <title><![CDATA["Shaft Signs" launched: 311 yellow balloons in the sky of the Ruhr Metropolis]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[The European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 has launched 311 large yellow helium balloons into the sky and so presented “ShaftSigns”, the largest art installation in the world. On Saturday, May 22, 2010, at noon sharp, all balloons were simultaneously taken to a height of up to 80 meters. They will be visible for nine days over an area of 4,000 km2 and mark the former mine shafts of the Ruhr area to demonstrate the transformation of the former coal and steel region of Ruhr into a metropolis of the future, the Ruhr Metropolis.
